ACL Or PCL Injury

ACL or PCL injuries occur during a sports or fitness activity. The ligament gets stretched or gets torn either partially or completely when the knee twists or hits the hard surface accidentally. This commonly occurs in sports like basketball, football, soccer, walking or running on uneven surface and gymnastics, or in cases like fall from stairs or car accidents where a sudden change in direction stresses and damages the ligament.

If you feel pain and swelling in the knee after the injury applies an ice pack and contact your Orthopedician immediately. A partial ligament tear can possibly heal with medicines and physiotherapy, but a complete tear of the ACL, PCL, or Meniscal Ligament would require Arthroscopic Surgery to repair the broken ligament.

Surgery & Recovery

When you get admitted for the surgery we carry out all the pre-surgery tests to evaluate your fitness for surgery. The surgery for each knee is finished in 45-60 minutes. We use FDA approved imported titanium implants and keep the biggest stock of these implants so that the right sized implant is used for your knee. Your stay in the hospital would be just 1 day for ACL or PCL ligament surgery.

You can start walking from the next day and can go home. Our physiotherapist will expain you the exercise during your stay. After discharge you are given a complete programme for rehabilitation which you should continue for the next 45-60 days during which you would recover completely and would be able to do all kinds of walking activities. If you want to play sports then you have to continue physiotherapy for atleast 4-6 months.

Our Doctors

Our Arthroscopic Experts will evaluate your injured knee by performing a few physical examinations. If the doctor suspects any bony injury then he may ask for a Knee Xray to rule out the fracture as well as an MRI to check on any ligament or meniscal injuries. If your knee is very tense and swollen the doctor may use a needle to drain the fluid. Arthroscopic or Laser Ligament Surgery at Vardhman Hospital is done by a team of Orthopaedic Surgeons led by world-renowned Dr Mukesh Jain, Dr Anubhav Jain and Dr Sidhant Jain
