Laparoscopic Surgeries

Vardhman Hospital has always been at the forefront in the management of infertility. Laparoscopic surgeries are performed routinely here. Laparoscopic surgery includes operations within the abdominal or pelvic cavities.

These are day care surgeries done through key hole incisions. Patient is discharged early with minimum hospitalisation. These  procedures are also called minimally invasive surgeries. It is a modern technique in which we make use of images displayed on TV monitors to magnify the surgical elements via a camera mounted on the instruments.

This centre offers laparoscopic surgery for:

Hysteroscopic Surgeries

Hysteroscopy is the inspection of the uterus  by an endoscope with access through the cervix. It allows for the diagnosis of intrauterine pathology and serves as a method for surgical intervention. TCRE and Roller ball electro coagulation carried out. (destruction of uterine lining to control heavy periods) It is an invaluable part of infertility evaluation.

Surgeries are done for Intra uterine conditions like fibroids, polyps, septums and synechiae

Repeated Abortion Management

A social stigma and also a mental deterrent to the patient, abortion management is a skilled task. Surgical expertise combined with compassion and care for the patient at Vardhman hospital makes it easier to accomplish the task. This is a very unfortunate group who conceive but are unable to continue their pregnancy to term and face repeated disappointments in their obstetrics career.

Such patients normally present with heaps of files, papers and investigations and have no clue about the cause and management of their repeated abortions. We have developed a very strong and effective management protocol. Firstly the approach is a “Couple Approach” where in the husband is also treated as a probable causative, contributing cause of repeated pregnancy losses.

All investigations are judiciously charted out in accordance with the types of  abortions a lady has undergone and what  ever reports she is carrying with her.We rely heavily on the interval treatment that is the time period between the last pregnancy loss and before she contemplates the next pregnancy.

Giving supportive treatment till the definitive causative factor is treated.
Use of endoscopic surgery to visualize the uterine cavity for any probable uterine cause like Uterine Septum.

  • Synechiae/ adhesions (which develop as a result of repeated curettage done for previous abortions)
  • T shaped narrow uterine cavity
  • Endometrial polyps and, fibroids.

It is a joy to treat such patients who come with all despair , no hope and then to see them conceiving and becoming mothers

It is a OPD procedure to evaluate the female reproductive tract. It is a technique to examine an illuminated, magnified view of the tissues. Many lesions in these areas have discernible characteristics which can be detected through the examination. It is done using a colposcope, which provides an enlarged view of the areas, allowing the surgeon to visually distinguish normal from abnormal appearing tissue.

Colposcopy is now routinely indicated for Evaluation of women with abnormal pap smear

  • Unique facility to study the erosions of uterine cervix.

  • to select the biopsy site, even if a minor atypicality is detected in just one smear
  • Management of abnormal smear during pregnancy.

Evaluation of women even with normal pap smear in the following

A very specialised area of gynaecology where maximal skill is needed is a routine surgery at Vardhman Hospital. Patients ailing for years together recover with the surgery miraculously. Repair of the walls of the reproductive organs with specialised implants is done here successfully.

We provide laparoscopic management of genuine urinary stress incontinence, pelvic floor repair.  Child birth, trauma, neuromuscular damage, fascial defects and tearing cause cervix, vagina, uterus, to hang outside the vaginal outlet (prolapse) Prolapse of vaginal vault is also encountered after hysterectomy.

All these defects can be repaired Laparoscopically as this causes more precise site specific repair. There is minimal tissue trauma, early recovery and better long term beneficial results.  GUSI, prolapse, entrocoele, rectoceole are common in elderly females. Nulliparous prolapse can be precisely corrected by laparoscopy in younger females desirous of further child bearing. Laparoscopic burch and paravaginal defects repair is a offered for GUSI (Genuine Urinary Stress Incontinence) and cystocoele repair.

Done as a procedure for the evaluation of infertility in which we can establish the patency of the ducts. Using a catheter introduced through the neck of the womb  we can inject contrast fluid to visualise the fallopian tubes . These are the two little tubes through which the egg passes down into the uterus. This test allows blockages to be seen.
